You are going to print your QR code in the corner of your invitation or on top of the wedding table. But the wrong print choice means the code will not scan — and 200 invitations are wasted. This guide covers what to do for four printing scenarios.
Scenario 1: adding a QR to a classic invitation
You already have a stationer and just want the QR added. Download your code from Wedding Memento as a PNG ("Download QR" on the event detail page — 300×300 px, level H error correction). When handing it to the printer, watch three things:
- Size: at least 2.5 × 2.5 cm. Smaller will not scan in low light.
- Paper: matte coated is ideal. Glossy/laminated print causes flash glare that blocks scanning.
- Colour: keep it black and white. A coloured QR looks artistic but fails at low contrast.
Scenario 2: standalone QR cards (mini cards)
Your invitation is done; you want mini "QR cards" for the tables. A 5×5 cm square, QR on one side, "Share your photos" on the other. Online printers run roughly 10-20 USD for 100. Choose 300gsm matte coated.
Scenario 3: sticker QR (under tables, napkin rings)
The least-known but most creative use: print the QR as a sticker and place it in unexpected spots. A guest opens a napkin ring → finds a QR → scans in surprise → upload rate is about 40% higher. Recommended round sticker size: 4 cm. Sticker printers run about 15-30 USD for 200.
Scenario 4: a giant QR behind the photo booth
If you set up a photo booth, put an A2 (42×59 cm) or A1 (59×84 cm) QR on the backdrop with "Share tonight's photos." Every guest comes to the booth — impossible to miss. Rigid digital print (foam board / PVC): roughly 15-30 USD for A2, 30-60 USD for A1.
5 common mistakes
- Not testing the QR — ask for a digital proof, and scan it with your phone to confirm it reaches the upload page.
- Going to 1.5 cm to save space — under 2.5 cm will not scan from a distance or in dim light.
- Artistic "rounded" QR generators — use the standard QR Wedding Memento produces; decorations raise the error rate.
- Glossy paper — flash + gloss on the night = an unreadable code.
- Printing without a quiet zone — the white border is required for the QR to scan.
Emergency: no time for a printer
If you cannot get a QR added a week before the wedding: download Wedding Memento's print template — a printer-friendly A4 poster PDF — and print it at home for the tables. Ready in 5 minutes.
The QR error-correction level
Wedding Memento QRs use "level H" (high) error correction — so even if 30% of the QR is missing, you put a logo on top, or it is slightly bent, it still scans. That means:
- Adding the couple's small logo to the centre is safe
- Lightly smudged or older prints still work
- Even a couple of misaligned cuts among 200 invitations remain scannable
The verdict
Print right and the QR works flawlessly all night. To design the invitation around it, see our QR invitation guide, or create your event to download your code.
